Guitar Finishing, Re-finishing, and Finish Repair
A guitars finish not only enhances the look of the guitar but also serves to protect it from the elements. Early finishes were made from shellac, a resin secreted from a lac bug. Later finishes were made of the notorious nitrocellulose lacquer or "nitro" as many guitar guys call it. Modern finishes are made of polyester or poly urethane and are much more durable.
Many guitars over their lifetime will sustain some type of finish damage or deterioration. Sometimes imperfections can be spot treated and other times a complete finish may be necessary. Knowing the difference, and how to work with each type of finish is important.

The owner of this Charvel guitar wanted to enlarge the neck pick up cavity to accommodate a larger single coil pickup, replace the rosewood fret board with ebony and stainless steel frets, and change the color from red to yellow. He had three people turn him down or blow him out of the water with outrageous prices before bringing the guitar to me.
